Elden Ring's Devs We Don't Really Want You to Be Missing This Heartbreaking Quest
Like other role-playing games Elden Ring Runes lack of a quest log makes players really pay attention to dialogue along with the surrounding world in order to keep track of certain NPC stories. However, the start of one quest line was so obscure that FromSoftware took steps to ensure that people would naturally gravitate toward it.
Boc the Seamster is difficult to miss. The Seamster first appears in Limgrave the region where everyone's Elden Ring adventure begins, but I've yet to see Boc at all in my 100-hour game playing through. Boc appears as a plant at the time it's your first encounter with him. However, he, at the game's launch, only called out to passing Tarnished as they stepped close to his grill. He's very well hidden actually, that I've seen players go close enough to start Boc's incoherent dialogue, search the area to find the source of the conversation, and finally go away without spotting his camouflage.
As seen in the small Illusory Wall video above, the massive upgrade of last month has increased the distance at which Boc begins to call out in the direction of Elden Ring players. This means that people who are glued to landmarks will be able to hear Boc from the road's cobblestones without having to go into the grassy wilds surrounding it.
FromSoftware even included a rare, purple-colored item drop to encourage Tarnished to explore further the area in which Boc is hiding, however it's still up to players to discern whether they need to attack or roll into Boc's bush disguise in order to uncover his identity.
You're likely to be wondering if Boc's storyline is worth the effort. The answer to that question depends on what you want out of Elden Ring. In terms of rewards, I'd say not since everything Boc can provide for you (i.e. altering clothing) you already can do yourself by visiting The Sites of Grace checkpoints after gathering the necessary items. If you're in search of the traditional heartbreaking Souls narrative, well don't look any further than this wacky dude.
Boc is described as an unusual case. The demi-human is a type that is typically vicious, ape-like creatures that have likely been killed in the hundreds prior to finding him. However, he's one that can think and talk like a human. When you meet Boc He's been pushed out of the demi-human's den on the shores of Limgrave, and is willing to head back into the den to secure the reward of rehabilitating the shrubs from. That doesn't go so well for him. However, when you go in to take on the boss you'll find his sewing kit. Bring it back to Boc and he's your personal seamstress. He can even tailor your wardrobe at no cost.
What follows is a sad tale concerning Boc's struggles with his appearance and the different ways you can help him come to terms with his situation in life, either for the better or worse. I'll let you explore these choices by yourself, but keep in mind that beauty is in the eyes of the viewer.
It's been said many times before, but I'll repeat it once more: cheap Elden Ring Runes is massive. The majority of players won't discover all the secrets it has to offer in one playthrough. Even if you've reached triple digits in your playtime I'd encourage you to revisit the game to see what else there is to learn, particularly as developers continue to add content to the game and make modifications to existing content.
